Description

Who made the ultimate kits, artists or makers? YOU decide as you and your friends battle out kit vs kit. The pack includes 24 cards featuring kits made by artists and makers and an inlay card which gives the rules of the game and a brief history of the kitification of the art object.

We understand kits to be a collection of materials and instructions that with interaction can make something. We devised a scoring system that breaks down what makes a successful kit. We hope that playing with these cards will lead you to argue between yourselves and with us.

 

How to Play

 

Shuffle and deal all the cards face down. Each player holds their cards so they can see the top card only.

 

The player to the dealer’s left starts by reading out a category and score from the top card (e.g. Beauty 7) The other players read out the same category and score from their top cards. The one with the highest value wins, and that player collects all the top cards, including their own, and moves them to the bottom of their pile. The winner chooses a category from their next top card.

 

If two or more cards share the top score then all the cards are placed in the middle and the same player chooses again. The winner of the hand takes the cards in the middle as well.

The person with all the cards at the end is the winner.

Scores

Beauty: The more beautiful the kit higher the score.

Social Engagement: The more effectively the kit engages with a social issue the higher the score.

Subversiveness: The more effectively the kit messes with norms and conventions, the higher the score.

Solutionism: Does your kit imply that the world is a series of problems that can only be solved with more technology? If so score it high!

Commodification: The more a kit packages and brands an experience, the higher the score.
